Benue state REC, Istifanus Dafwang says Buhari is a beneficiary of card reader.
This position was disclosed on February 19 in Makurdi, Benue state, by the resident electoral commissioner (REC) for the state, Istifanus Dafwang.
Dafwang was reacting to question over the use of card readers in Saturday’s rerun in Benue South senatorial election despite recent Supreme Court rulings against electronic accreditation.
“Present government has benefited from card readers and it has to strengthen it. Without card readers, this government might not come. The National Assembly appropriated billions for INEC to procure card readers and PVCs.
“You can’t just turn around to say INEC can’t use card readers. Constitution does not provide for every detail. The constitution empowers INEC to provide guidelines for the election and that’s what brought about card readers to ensure credibility of the election.”
Asked future elections conducted with card readers would not result in annulment by the court, he said legal experts were “working.”

For today’s election between David Mark, a former Senate President and Daniel Onjeh, in Benue South, there are 546,054 registered voters of which “about 493,000 have collected PVCs, Dafwang disclosed.”
