This afternoon, Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia of a Lagos Federal High Court, convicted and sentenced the former Director-General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Mr Raymond Omatseye, to five years imprisonment for contract scam of N1.5billion.Omatseye was charged before the court by anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on offences bordering on contract splitting and bid rigging to the tune of about N1.5 billion.
The offence, according to the EFCC, contravened Section 58(4) (d) of the Public Procurement Act, 2007. Omatseye was also charged with money laundering contrary to Sections 14(a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2004.
