Singer Seun Oni, known as Saeon has revealed she got death threats during her feud with StarBoy’s Wizkid.
One of the defining points in Saeon’s career, was her widely publicised beef with Wizkid back in 2014 which started after she paid him N1.5m to feature on her song, ‘Boogie Down’ and he refused to tweet its link. Saeon got so enraged by the refusal that she disclosed to the world how much she paid Wizkid for the collabo.
Her disclosure however led to a lot of backlash for her as many industry heavyweights refused to see it her way that Wizkid should have tweeted on her behalf after being paid so much. Now, she has come out with a lengthy emotional piece in which she once again touched on the issue and how it affected her so much that she nearly gave up on music and even got death threats!
“I actually had a couple death threats and tons of negative comments sent my way. I pretty much was on my own. No one had my back. Not in public. I remember getting just 2 phone calls from a couple of people I considered as friends but majority didn’t say a word.
“It wasn’t like they were obliged to but it would have at least encouraged me.
“It was as though the entire industry was against me. It was one of the hardest experiences I’ve ever faced”. She said
She continued: “The controversy never started out as a publicity stunt but happened to take place just before I released my first body of work, I Am SAEON – The EP’, which was supposed to showcase my R&B strengths. Instead, it drowned in the controversy. To make things worse I had no support from the label as they held off completely from promoting me barely 5 months after signing me”.
Saeon, who revealed that after all that her passion for music died.
“I still have a lot to do and I work hard everyday to get to where I wanna be and even past it. I’m on my lane. I’m on a journey and this time it’s my journey. It is my prayer that just as I’ve found my lane, you will all find yours. You will find your #DéBè. You will find your Nigerian Dream and achieve it!”
