Wizkid Achieved Something That No Other African Artist Did This Year

Wizkid’s Ojuelegba has received many accolades lately, especially after rapper Drake jumped on the remix of his song Ojuelegba. Fader Magazine included Ojuelegba in its 107 Best Songs of 2015 list. Wizkid’s single is on the top 20 list (12th to be precise) while Tinashe’s Party Favors and Jidenna’s Classic Man respectively landed on the 63rd and 107th spots.

Among the greatest

Wizkid’s song landed above top singles from successful artists such as Future, Fetty Wap, Rich Homie Quan, Adele, just to name a few. He is the only artist based in Africa to feature on this list and according to Fader, the Nigerian musician did not need Drake to land on the 12th spot. The magazine wrote:

“Let’s get what we all already know out of the way: Drake hopped on this song from Nigerian artist Wizkid for a remix, generously making the song more famous (at least in America) than it might’ve been on its own in 2015. But let me state this clearly and definitively: the song never needed him. No matter the celebrity, you can’t improve on perfection, even if the Skepta verse that accompanied Drake’s on the remix was pretty great. No, “Ojuelegba” is best on its own, a graceful slice of rhythm that does not need cultural translation. Like Popcaan’s “Everything Nice,” the iconic global jam from last summer, it has

Wizkid, who was recently featured on R. Kelly’s 13th album in the song called I Just Want To Thank You, is getting ready for the end-of-the-year parties. He released his latest video produced by Sesan not too long ago. It’s called Final (Baba Nla) and it’s banging!
